Department of Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Care
The anaesthesiology part of the department performs pre-anaesthetic examinations and participates in the preparation of patients for surgery, including patients with high risks associated with anaesthesia. In the operating rooms, the department staff provides anaesthesiology care in all performed surgical or diagnostic procedures, even for patients with the highest risk, i.e., with complicated underlying diseases that do not allow surgery in hospitals of lower type.
An integral part of anaesthesiology care is the postoperative care of patients at the postoperative unit. Painful postoperative conditions are handled by the so-called Pain Service. The Intensive Care and Resuscitation Unit (ICRU) provides intensive and resuscitation care to critically ill patients, i.e. patients in whom one or more basic life functions have failed. It takes care of patients already hospitalised at the University Hospital Olomouc or patients transferred from the field or other hospitals of a lower type. It participates in the transplant program.
The Centre for Pain Management handles problems associated with chronic and intolerable pain by anaesthesiological methods. It is one of the few sites in the country to provide radiofrequency pain treatment.
