Information on personal data protection for patients

Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, abbreviated as GDPR, has been in force since 25 May 2018.

Olomouc University Hospital pays great attention to the issue of personal data protection. Your personal data is processed in our hospital when we provide medical services to you. The legal base for this is the Act on Medical Services, Act No. 372/2011 Coll., stipulating we are obligated to keep medical records and process the personal data of patients when providing medical services. For that reason, we do not require your consent to your personal data processing and at the same time we will have to reject your potential requests to delete your personal data from the FNOL databases.

The personal data protection in the area of patient information and their medical condition has become essential in the context of GDPR. We are aware that this type of information is extremely sensitive information and it must not be published and possibly misused. Hence, we pay special attention to the way medical records are kept.

  • We have developed several policy documents covering the issue of GDPR, we have trained our staff - we have deepened our knowledge in the field of personal data protection.
  • We have performed a demanding risk analysis and taken several measures to eliminate or mitigate the risks.
  • We have appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) – Mgr. Pavla Fiurášková. You can submit any questions, suggestions and comments at any time via e-mail to poverenec.GDPR@fnol.cz, mobile phone +420 724 242 289 or in person on business days (if possible, we would like to ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 588 442 479).
  • The management of our hospital does not rely solely on the implementation of GDPR rules, and has carried out regular audits and an overall review of compliance with GDPR requirements.
